Life and Justice is a ministry of Sacred Heart where parishioners are interested in serving our Lord by sharing our love and gifts. We invite you to serve with us in the opportunities of praying, volunteering and supporting others.

MISSION STATEMENT

To educate the members of our parish and community on the issues of life and

justice, to provide opportunities for our members to act on the principles of Catholic

Social Teaching, and to advocate for leadership that is fair and just.

Corporal Works of Mercy

Feed the hungry

Give drink to the thirsty

  • Donate to build wells for those in need

  • Make an effort to not waste water

Clothe the naked

Shelter the homeless

  • Northland Rescue Mission

  • Volunteer at homeless shelter

  • Donate to organizations that build homes for those in need

  • Knit, sew, or make tie-blankets for homeless shelter

  • Provide material needs for refugees and those fleeing domestic abuse

Visit the sick

  • Visit those in the hospital

  • Visit those in the nursing home

  • Give blood

  • Volunteer at nursing home

  • Visit elderly neighbors

  • Offer to assist the caregivers of chronically sick or provide them a break

  • Provide a meal

Visit the imprisoned

  • Prison Ministry (Crookston)

Bury the dead

  • Send a card to someone who has lost a loved one

  • Visit the cemetery and pray for those you have lost

  • Spend time planning your own funeral mass

Give Alms to the Poor

  • Skip morning coffee and put that money in church collection basket

  • Find a charity that you connect with and give time/money

  • Participate in Operation Rice Bowl

Spiritual Works of Mercy

Admonish the sinner

  • Don’t judge, but guide others towards the path of salvation (Mt 7:1-2)

  • When you correct someone, don’t be arrogant; we are all in need of God’s loving correction

  • “Remove the wooden beam from your eye first; then you will see clearly to remove the splinter from your brother’s eye” (Mt 7:5)

Instruct the ignorant

  • Go on a short term mission trip or support someone on their service trip

  • Volunteer to help with Religious Education at your parish

  • Invite someone to mass

  • Know your faith-be a lifelong learner of the faith

  • Volunteer to teach parenting classes at local pregnancy resource clinic

  • Volunteer to mentor a New American family through Global Friends Coalition

Counsel the doubtful

  • Give advice with your response oriented toward Christ, who is the Way, the Truth, and the Life

  • Witness to Christ in your life so that others can see God’s love in your actions

  • Encourage participation in RCIA

  • Share a book with a friend that may deal with a faith concern

Comfort the sorrowful

  • Grief Support

  • Divorce Care

  • Lend a listening ear to those going through a tough time

  • Make a meal

  • Write a letter/send a card to someone who is suffering

  • Assist/participate in local grief support groups

  • Assist/participate in Catholic Divorce Care

  • Take part in Blue Christmas

Bear wrongs patiently

  • Do not give in to bitterness about wrongs done against you

  • Pray and face wrongs done to you with a compassionate spirit

Forgive all injuries

  • Let go of grudges

  • Participate in the Sacrament of Reconciliation

  • Pray the Divine Mercy Chaplet

  • Say you’re sorry-and mean it

Pray for the living & the dead

  • Request a Mass Intention
