North Country Food Bank

Sacred Heart Parish will be volunteering at North Country Food Bank (NFCB) to help feed local families. Please consider making this volunteer opportunity a part of your personal corporal works of mercy. Sign up sheets are outside the parish office. Sign up today!

North Country Food Bank has successfully distributed food across the region for more than 36 years. North Country recently moved its operations from Crookston to East Grand Forks and is located off Hwy 2 in what served as the Sacred Heart temporary school following the ’97 flood. Last year, North Country distributed more than 6.6 million pounds of food in its 21 county service area. North Country works with more than 1300 volunteers each year to provide nearly 10,000 hours of work. Volunteering has a huge impact on North Country's ability to distribute enough food across the region. Sacred Heart School and Parish will have a close partnership with North Country as we send groups weekly from both the elementary and high school to assist with the packing of food for distribution to non-profits. Classes will be notified in advance of their service morning and a Sacred Heart permission form along with a North Country Food Bank volunteer form will be sent home with your child(ren) to complete and return.

Matthew 25:35 "For I was hungry and you gave me food. I was thirsty and you gave me drink."

Feed My Starving Children

We invite you to join us in being a part of the hunger solution through this Feed My Starving Children MobilePack. This is an opportunity to learn about hunger related issues, pray for those in need, raise funds to cover the cost of meals and pack meals for the hungry. Through this powerful event, we can impact the lives of thousands of children.

Feed My Starving Children is a non-profit Christian organization committed to feeding God’s starving children hungry in body and spirit. The approach is simple: children and adults hand-pack meals specifically formulated for malnourished children, and we ship these meals around the world. FMSC meals have reached nearly 70 countries in our history.

Northland Rescue Mission

Northlands Rescue Mission is a place of rescue, relief and restoration for all who come here, no matter their needs or challenges. For the homeless living on the streets, we’re a hot meal, a warm bed and a second chance. For the mentally ill, we are a safe harbor that offers compassionate care. For an impoverished family in crisis, we are a source of help and hope.

Our Christian-based nonprofit ministry serves homeless men and women in 21 counties of North Dakota and Minnesota with shelter, meals, clothing, spiritual guidance and case management, all delivered in a safe environment, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

With your help, we offer a place of hope where people can recover from homelessness and addiction, restore their dignity and improve their lives.

Rescue Mission Bible Study

Tuesdays (7:00 - 8:00 pm)

Northlands Rescue Mission (small conference room)

420 Division Ave., Grand Forks

We need people willing to take an hour a month to lead a discussion about the bible/upcoming readings at the Mission. You do not need to be a bible scholar, just an ordinary person willing to sit down with other people to talk about faith and the Word. You can be matched up with someone with experience, so you need not go this alone.

For further information, please contact Mike Marek at (701) 757-0531, or email at mmarek@sacredheartegf.net

Unborn Babies & Their Families

Loving the unborn and their mothers and fathers

We show the love of Christ to the unborn and to their parents by meeting their spiritual, physical, emotional, and material needs.  We collaborate with local agencies such as the Women's Pregnancy Center and the Saint Gianna Maternity Home.  We believe that every person is created in the image and likeness of God and has an inherent right to life from conception until natural death.

You can volunteer at…

Women's Pregnancy Center

Attend Women's Pregnancy Center Fall Banquet. The fundraising banquet is held in October at the Alerus Center in Grand Forks. The evening includes a presentation by a pro-life speaker, dinner, and opportunity to make a donation.  You may attend as a guest or be a table sponsor and invite friends to your table.

Walk For Life. A fun family event that is held in June at the Town Square in Grand Forks. You are asked to collect pledges from friends and family and join other pro-lifers in a non-competitive 2 mile walk through downtown GF/EGF.

40 Days For Life Campaign. A bus of volunteers travel to the Red River Valley Women's Clinic in Fargo, ND to peacefully and respectfully pray outside the abortion clinic for all who are affected by the killing of unborn babies.

Baby Bottle Project. Take a baby bottle home from church each fall and fill it with coins, dollars, or a check and return to church.  Proceeds go to the Women's Pregnancy Center.

Sign up to volunteer for the Women's Pregnancy Center by calling 701-746-8866.

The Women’s Pregnancy Center is in need of your help.  If you have a desire to serve this group of individuals in a capacity beyond what is mentioned or if you’d like to be a part of organizing these activities for our parishioners and the community members we’d love to hear from you.

Pray the Rosary for the unborn every Thursday at 11:30am, Fridays before morning mass, and before all masses on the first weekend of the month.

Mission Work/Trips

Our goal is to live out the scripture of Matthew 28:19, "Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit."  We hope to plan domestic and/or international mission trips for parishioners to put their faith into action.

You can volunteer to…

  • Become a part of a group who organizes and plans future mission work.

  • Pray for the poor, hungry, outcast, and oppressed and seek out opportunities to meet their needs.

  • Help Fr. Jerry Rogers in meeting the needs of the St. Mary's Mission Appeal.

Those working on Mission Work/Trips need your help.  If you are interested in being a member of a group who is ready to serve in areas not local but in dire need of help we’d love your help and your ideas to better serve them.
